Standing with Chinatown

For the past year, Philadelphia Printworks has been proud to stand in solidarity with the No Arena in Chinatown movement, a grassroots coalition committed to protecting the cultural and residential integrity of Philadelphia’s Chinatown. As we close this chapter, we want to take a moment to reflect on the movement’s impact and express our gratitude to the community members and organizers who have led this fight.

The No Arena in Chinatown movement emerged in response to the proposed development of a new basketball arena near Chinatown, a project that raised serious concerns about displacement, gentrification, and the erosion of a historic cultural enclave. Organizers, many of whom have deep generational ties to the neighborhood, worked tirelessly to rally support, educate the public, and resist the forces of corporate expansion that threaten community autonomy.

Through our fundraiser, we were able to raise $4,096.99 in direct support of the organizers, providing financial resources to help sustain their advocacy efforts. We recognize that solidarity is more than a one-time action—it is an ongoing commitment to standing with communities in their struggles for self-determination and justice. While this specific campaign has concluded, our dedication to supporting movements for housing justice, cultural preservation, and anti-displacement efforts remains steadfast.

We extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who purchased merchandise, shared the campaign, and amplified the voices of those on the frontlines. Your collective efforts helped fuel this movement, and we are honored to have played a small role in supporting a community that has long been a cornerstone of Philadelphia’s rich cultural fabric.

As we look ahead, we encourage our community to stay engaged with the organizers and continue supporting efforts to preserve Chinatown and other communities facing similar threats. The fight against displacement is far from over, and it is through sustained solidarity that we can build a future where all neighborhoods can thrive on their own terms.

In gratitude and solidarity,
Philadelphia Printworks
