Harriet Tubman (born Araminta Ross c. 1822 – March 10, 1913) was an African-American abolitionist, humanitarian, and, during the American Civil War, a Union spy. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some thirteen missions to rescue approximately seventy enslaved family and friends, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. She later helped abolitionist John Brown recruit men for his raid on Harpers Ferry, and in the post-war era was an active participant in the struggle for women's suffrage.
The "School of Thought" collection, designed by Mars Five and Philadelphia Printworks, represents the double consciousness experienced by African diaspora in America and creates a safe space for the praxis of liberation. The collection imagines a different world where colleges and institutions have been established based on the philosophies of Marcus Garvey, Audre Lorde, Ida B. Wells, Harriet Tubman, George Washington Carver and James Baldwin.

Care Instructions
The pigment-dyeing process gives each garment a unique character. Please allow for slight color variation in production and washing.
Due to the nature of pigment dye, loose pigments may remain on the surface of the garments. We therefore strongly recommend washing these garments only with like-colored garments, as some of the pigment dyes may stain light or white-colored garments in the wash cycle. Washing the garments in cold water will reduce the possibility of staining.
